A Journey from Vision to Impact

Founded in 2017 by passionate coffee enthusiast David Ngoboka, Mubuga Bio Coffee Ltd began with a bold vision: to produce world-class organic coffee while transforming rural communities in Rwanda’s Western Province.

After extensive market research across Rwanda’s coffee regions, David identified the perfect terroir in Karongi District – fertile volcanic soils, ideal altitude, and the pristine shores of Lake Kivu. What started as a dream became operational reality in 2017.

Our location tells a powerful story. Operating near the Bisesero Genocide Memorial Site in the historically significant Bisesero region, we’re not just growing coffee – we’re contributing to national healing and post-genocide recovery. Every cup represents resilience, hope, and Rwanda’s remarkable transformation.

From humble beginnings, we’ve grown into one of Rwanda’s first organic coffee companies, pioneering sustainable practices that now serve as a model for farmers across the country.

Our Mission

We grow and export premium-quality organic coffee using innovative eco-friendly practices that simultaneously support human health, environmental sustainability, and community empowerment.

Our dual commitment:

  • Environmental stewardship – Protecting Rwanda’s natural beauty through 100% organic farming, agroforestry integration, and climate-smart agriculture
  • Community transformation – Creating sustainable livelihoods for rural families while preserving traditional coffee farming knowledge and embracing modern sustainable practices

We believe exceptional coffee should tell a story of environmental restoration, social empowerment, and uncompromising quality – proving that business success and positive impact go hand in hand.

Awards & Recognition

In 2024, Mubuga Bio Coffee Ltd was honored with the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Award and received a RWF 100 million grant from the Rwanda Green Fund (FONERWA) in recognition of its agroforestry and climate resilience initiatives.

Our Footprint of Progress

Since 2017, Mubuga Bio Coffee has been driving lasting change from the ground up. We’ve trained 906 farmers in sustainable agriculture, planted 100,000 agroforestry trees to strengthen climate resilience, and cultivated 300 hectares across Mubuga, Rwankuba, and Gishyita. With over 600,000 coffee trees now thriving and producing, our commitment to people, planet, and premium organic coffee continues to grow—one harvest at a time.

Our Vision

We prioritize the well-being of our team beyond the fields. Through Ejo Heza Savings, we’re helping farming families build lasting financial security, while Mutuelle de Santé ensures that every worker has access to health insurance—because true sustainability starts with protecting both livelihoods and lives.
